The
Treatment
Protocol

People hear about the treatment offered by DepthWorks in a range of ways - word of mouth, finding us online or active outreach and an invitation to consider the treatment. This has typically been by Kevin or others finding social media posts or articles in newspapers where people talk of their challenges with PTSD, then getting in touch to invite them to consider this treatment approach.
If they are interested or want to know more, we meet them in person or over the phone. We talk to them about the treatment, what it looks like, and what the time commitment is. If they decide to work with us, we make all the arrangements.
Qualifying candidates (those with clinical levels of need) do not pay for their travel, accommodation or treatment. Costs for travel and accommodation are currently funded through gifted airmiles, private donor contributions, and sponsorship. Some eligible combat Veteran candidates are supported by Northern Ireland based charity, Progress Through Scuba Diving (PTSD)
Candidates travel from their home to Nassau, Bahamas. We pick them up and make sure they have somewhere nice and calm to stay. The next day, they travel from Nassau to Long Island. They spend between 10-14 days in Long Island, staying at a cottage on the beach (or other quiet and peaceful spot) or a more energetic resort in town, according to their preference.
People receiving treatment are looked after by Kevin and Audrey during their stay. They are met on arrival, accompanied from the airport to the accommodation, and invited to spend each evening meal with Kevin and Audrey at their home. This provides our participants with easygoing care, accompaniment, alone time if they want it, and a space/time to check in and track progress.
Participants do 1-2 dives per day at a depth suitable to their diving experience and qualification level. Depths range from 60 ft/18m up to 130ft/40m (under PADI recommendations) or 164ft/50m (under BSAC regulations).
Visitors are asked to fund their own spending money during their stay in Long Island, and to provide themselves with breakfast and lunch. All other expenses are covered by either the PTSD charity or donors making funds directly available for their use. For people who are experiencing severe financial hardship, all costs are covered
Some of the people we have worked with have shared their stories through testimonials and videos. They have become powerful advocates for the treatment. Want to know more? Check back soon to hear from our participants as they share their stories.
